Since 2015 there were FOUR bed bug infestations in my mother's apartment and though the landlord sent a pest company (Global Pest Control) to do a three-time fumigation with each infestation, they kept coming back--despite having thrown out most of my mother's beautiful furnishings as the ordeal repeated itself.

My mother died in December 2020, and two weeks after her death, I was bitten by bed bugs AGAIN. The first time I broke out in a horrible allergic reaction that At that point, I decid

ed to leave the rent-controlled apartment I had been living in with her, and never turn back. The problem is apparently systemic in the building--I know of other people who have had bed bugs in the past few years there.

I cannot say for sure whether other apartments have continued to have problems in the past year, but when an exterminator from Global Pest came to fumigate roaches in the fall of 2020, I asked how the bed bug problem was and he said "not bad at all". When I asked how long it had been since he knew of any cases, he said "a few months".

On several occasions I have tried to inquire at Global Pest Control about the incidents of bed bugs at the building. They say they cannot give out that information. I am curious as to whether there is any municipal body that can compel disclosure from Global Pest Control.

Given that there is a class action pending against Big City Realty for inflating rents beyond the permissible amount given subsidies received, I find it difficult to trust this landlord's honesty regarding the bed bug situation in the building, and even though this repeated infestation made the apartment uninhabitable for me, I wanted to warn other trusting potential renters of the situation.
